Finding the right tables containing the data you are looking for in connectors from Fivetran has been one of the main bottlenecks for utilising Gyana to its full potential. That’s why we are introducing some “handcurated” reports that should cover a majority of your use cases. By default, only one of these will now be selected to avoid the confusion of the sometimes 20+ tables syncing otherwise.

Google Ads

You now have two additional reports Campaign and Adgroup. Both are segmented by date and campaigns or ad groups respectively and contain the following metrics:

• conversions

• conversion value

• clicks

• cost in micros

The Campaign report is selected by default.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics now has one additional report Campaign Stats. That aggregates by date, country, campaign, userType, and region and shows the metrics:

• transactions

• transactionRevenue

• users

• impressions

This report is selected by default

Facebook Ads

The Facebook Ads connector now contains a new report Campaign. Due to the complexity of the Facebook Ads API this report will create three tables Campaign, Campaign Actions, and Campaign Action Values. The data is aggregated by campaign and date and contains the metrics:

• impressions

• clicks

• inline_link_clicks

• frequency

• spend

Actions like transaction and transaction revenue are distributed over Campaign Actions and Campaign Action Values. Admittedly, this setup is still complicated and we will be looking into simplifying this futher in the future.

As always we would love to hear what improvements you would like to see to these reports or whether there other metrics or aggregated tables you think would be useful. In the next iteration, we are planning to split the tables into basic and advanced to reduce the overload of information when setting up the connectors!

Exporting your dashboards as a PDF file is now in beta. You can access it by clicking “preview print” on the dashboard shared URL (more ways to access this coming soon). The link will take you to a preview of all your dashboard pages, click export to PDF to download your dashboard!

Conditional Formatting

You can now highlight positive or negative trends in the table with a green or red background color. Simply open the formatting of a column select Conditional formatting and provide the required thresholds.

You can now reorder columns on the table widget by simply dragging and dropping them. Previously, it would require you to delete and read columns to get them in the desired order. This feature also works on the sort node. If you find a place this would come in handy let us know.

Data tab on widgets with search function

In order to better display potential sources and make them searchable, we created a separate Source tab when modifying widgets. This tab now works similarly to the input node on workflows.

Better node and formula errors

Failing nodes are now giving you more context on what went wrong. Some of the common formula errors now have a more concrete message and sometimes suggest possible solutions. If we forgot anything or you have other commons mistake, reach out!

The integration page is one of the first pages users interact with. We identified a lot of friction there, especially with the syncing flow and started implementing smaller improvements. You can expect more on this in the future. So far we moved some of the configuration settings to the settings tab and added some metadata to the sheet and upload integrations.

You can now also change the underlying file for a CSV upload integration and see a little preview of the data before confirming the import.

Change timezone function

We added a to_timezone(datetime, timezone) function that allows you to translate the timezone of a datetime to a timezone of your choice.

Google is deprecating its Google AdWords API which requires us to move your connectors to the Google Ads API. You can read more about it here. We are trying to get you back up running as easy possible but feel free to reach out should you encounter any problems

You can now save versions and return to former versions of your dashboard if you have access to our beta features. You can find the Save current version button under more.

Click the adjacent History button to access the saved versions and all past changes.

Custom API integration out of Beta

We have been testing our Custom API integration for a few months and are happy to announce that we are ready to take it out of Beta and make it available to all our users. You can read more about how to use Custom API here.

Google Analytics 4 in Beta

We are happy to announce that one of our most requested connectors, Version 4 of the Goolge Analytics API is finally available in Beta.

The new Gauge widget allows you to show single metrics or progress with an intuitive “tachometer”. Simply select the column and aggregation you want to display and change the lower and upper limit via the style tab.

Page naming and moving

We took a look at page navigation and decided it’s still too cumbersome to jump or reorder your pages. Now you can name and move dashboard pages. You are also able to jump to other pages more easily.

You are now able to adjust font sizes and colors of a metric’s header, value, and comparison value. Simply go to the styling tab and change the font or color.

Move widgets between pages

You can now move widgets between pages. Simply click the more button on a widget and select the page to move the widget to.

You can now create multiple joins in a single Join node. Simply add more than two parents and fill out the requirements as before. The first form joins the first and second inputs, the second form the third input with one of the two earlier joined inputs, and so on.

Column formatting options

You can now rename column headers in the Table widget. You can also select roundings and currency formats for numeric columns. This functionality is now also available on the Metric widget. All you have to do is click the blue Formatting button on the columns and configure the formatting. We plan to extend this to charts etc. Stay tuned.

We are testing our project duplication feature and you can try it by joining our Beta program through your team settings! Project duplication is the first step towards creating project templates that enable you to create the same dashboard with different data sources. Project overview overhaul

We did a little rework of the projects overview page to give you quick access to your Integrations, Workflows, and Dashboards.

Improvements

• Date range column and controller now reside next to each other hopefully making the whole experience a little clearer.

• Datetime period grouping is now also available for charts

• The get data node now is automatically named to the selected data source

• Node icons now indicate whether a node is connected

Sneak peek: Gyana University

It’s still hidden but as promised last week, we are working on rocket launch our Documentation and use case efforts with our Gyana University. More on this next week!

We added a search bar to our Get data node that lets you filter your options. We also cleaned up the UI and hope you’ll find it easier now to navigate your possible inputs.

Workflow, output node, and integration tables references

We added reference overviews to integration tables, workflows and output nodes. These should give you an easy way to identify which nodes or tables are actually used and where.

You can find the output nodes reference in the update modal of the node, the integration table reference in the according tab and the workflows references in the Setting & History window.

Improvements

• Pressing ESC after updating a widget now updates the widget in the dashboard

• Invite links only expire after being used successfully (or the expiry date is reached)

• Headers, footers, and pagination on tables are now sticky

You can now compare your metric with the previous period. After you’ve selected a date range on the page or the widget itself simply select Compare to previous period and the widget will show a percentage change compared to the previous period e.g. if your selected date range is this month then your metric will be compared to the last month. You can enable Positive decrease to display a reduction as a positive change.

Date range per widget

You can now add a date range per widget that overwrites date ranges that are potentially set on a page. Simply add a date range column and select the period you’re interested in.

Image and iframe widgets

You can now embed images and iframes in your dashboard to give it an even more individual touch.

Sort your tables

You can now sort your table widgets by a selected column.

Input tab on widget

You can now see the selected input on your widgets. Simply click the Input tab inside the Update window and see your source without leaving the dashboard.

For too long you were only able to create simple text to annotate your dashboards. Our new WYSIWYG editor allows you to use all the common styles to give your dashboards a more professional look!

Logical operators in formula node

Not being able to do connect different boolean conditions has made using the if function unnecessarily harder and verbose, that’s why we are introducing the long overdue and and or operators in the formulas. You can use them as the other functions using the bracket notation.

Create dates from string

We introduced multiple functions that allow you to create dates, times and datetimes. parse_date, parse_time and parse_datetime all take text and a format and create the respective type. The new date function takes year, month and day as integers and creates a date, while time expects the hour, minute and second.

Better grouping for dates and datetimes

Until now you always needed to extract e.g. the month from a date before being able to group by only the month instead of the date. We realised that this is such a common task that we decided to enable you to select the unit right on the aggregation node.

Join beta program

You can now enable our beta features through your team settings (Team > Settings) by turning on the switch Join Beta. This gives you access to features we are testing out. Not that features marked with the BETA tag might change significantly before being released properly! As always we love to hear your feedback!

• Added a full last 12 month date filter that selects the recent 12 months starting from the first day of the first month until today

• Dashboards on mobile now automatically show the full width of thedashboard

• Long text in tables is now truncated to 64 symbols you can read the rest of the text by hovering over the row

We’re laying the ground work for better dashboard customisation, so you can really tailor your dashboard to your use case. Over the last weeks we introduced:

• Background colors for widgets and the dashboard itself

• Different fonts and the ability to change the font size and color

• Ability to turn widget borders off

• Widget header styling options

• Widget border styling

You can find these setting by clicking the Theme & Layout button on a dashboard. These settings change the styling for the whole dashboard.

You can also adjust the styling per widget by going to the Style tab when editing a widget!

Improvements

If you’ve built your workflows and are now wondering how to make sure everything keeps working and stays up to date, this is the feature you’ve been waiting for.

Automate

On the new automate page, you can view all your integrations, workflows and dashboards and their relationships in a single interactive diagram. Click Run all to run everything in your project (excluding connectors, which update automatically each day), and view the status of historical runs.

Scheduling

You can now schedule individual sheets and workflows, and they’ll run at a time and timezone of your choosing. We’ll make sure they run in the right order, and after any connectors completed their daily sync.

You can turn on the scheduled workflow runs by simply toggling the checkbox in a workflow’s settings page, and ditto for a sheet’s settings page.

Date control widget

Two weeks ago we released date filters to beta. After a few more iterations we are now releasing the date control widget to all of you! You can find the widget in the sidebar together with the other widgets. Simply drag it onto your dashboard and set the desired range. Widgets that have date control column set will now be filtered according to that range.

Custom API integration in beta

We are currently testing the first version of a custom API integration. You’ll be able to fetch data from any endpoint, with full flexibility to setup your HTTP verb, query params, body and authentication. We’ve paid special attention to web applications using OAuth2 - you’ll be able to setup and authenticate once, and re-use the token in multiple data sources.

It’s part of our commitment to get to a point where you never need to worry if you can get your data into Gyana. Let us know if you want to trial this feature and we sign you up to our beta users.

Another highly requested feature, dashboard pagination is now available on Gyana. You can now add pages to your dashboard using the More menu.

You can use pages to group different insights together and structure your dashboard.

Table summary row

The table widget now allows you to aggregate your results and add a summary row at the bottom. This avoids you needing to create workflows for simple aggregations and can give you a quick overview over how single groups relate to the whole dataset!

Automate workflow and sheet runs (in beta 🚀 )

We are testing automated runs of sheet syncs and workflows. This feature allows you toggle workflows to sync automatically once a day together with your other data sources. We will also provide you with an overview page that let’s you view your most recent runs.

Improvements

• Fixed a bug with the pivot node not working with values that contained special characters like brackets and currencies.

• Fixed the widget edit modal not loading when reloading

• Added the team switcher to every page

We added the most common date ranges to our filter options. Now filtering for the last 30, 90 or 270 days or the last 6 month is only a few clicks away! Check the filter functions on any date column to get a complete list!

Date slicer (in Beta)

If you want all your charts to show the data for a specific time period or date then this feature will come in super handy! Simply add a global date filter to your dashboard and select the column on the widget that should be filtered on and the dashboard will only show the data for the provided range. We are still working out the ideal interface but can’t wait for you to be able to play with it!

Improvements

• Select the tab of Google sheet separately: You are now able to easily select the tab you would like to import into the tool, simply type the tab name during the configuration stage, and this will import that specific sheet

  

We put the widget creation button into a new sidebar. Now you are able to drag and drop your widget right at the place where you want it. We hope that this new experience is more consistent with the way you create a workflow and that you’ll appreciate the easier access and overview over our widgets.

Combo charts are here

As you might have noticed in the screenshot below one of our most requested features is finally available on your dashboards. To try it out simply create a combination chart, select the dimension and add as many line, column or area charts as you want. We recommend not using more than three to maintain readability. You can learn more here.

CSV export is out of beta

After testing it for a few weeks, we are now ready to release the CSV export of workflow nodes to you. You can find the download button when opening a node. Clicking it will create the CSV and send a download link to your email address.

Improvements

• Project overview facelift: The project overview has gotten a facelift and now shows more information with some nicer optics!

• Join node with two input handles: this should clarify which input is the left or right join partner.

  

We’ve removed the “pending” tab and streamlined all the information into a single view:

• The Ready column indicates whether the initial sync was completed and approved by you

• The Status column indicates if your integration is running smoothly or needs attention

You’ll also be alerted when an integration has completed syncing and is now ready to review - with a number in the sidebar, and a banner on the integrations page.

Convert Node

We’ve moved this popular formula function as a dedicated node! The convert node enables you to change the type of a column, e.g. from date & time to date, or number to text. This is an important cleaning operation for following steps like filters, formulas or joins.

Scheduled Google Sheets import (beta)

You can now automatically import your Google Sheet on a daily basis, with a new option to automatically sync new data.

To choose the time for the sync, you can configure you timezone in the team settings and the specific daily sync time in the project settings.

Improvements

• We’ve added a new json_extract formula for extracting a specific field from JSON data in a text column

• Widgets are now transparent (and take on the background color by default)

• We now display timestamps in the timezone defined for your team (e.g. last synced time)

• Fixed an issue where the workflows page wouldn’t load, if a workflow had an input integration deleted

• Fixed a regression where sorting was broken

• Fixed an issue where CSV and Excel import were temporarily timing out

This week we extended our theme options with a color palette. Choose up to 10 colors to apply to all charts in your dashboard.

New searchable formula documentation

We’ve improved our formula node with better documentation. You can now browse through categories, search for specific functions and read details on how to use them. We also added an intercom article here.
In the next week, we will expand on this. We would like to add usage examples and add functions that are still missing. So keep looking out for these changes and don’t forget to let us know what you would like to see on our feedback page.

Subscriptions are here

For a long time, we have been promising that we will start onboarding users from our waitlist, so we are happy and excited to announce that we are starting to do so this week. With the introduction of our subscription system, you will also be able to upgrade your account directly through the app from your billing page.

Metric widget

The metric chart allows you to display a single value in your dashboard. Simply select the data source, metric column and aggregation.

CSV export (in beta)

You can now export data to a CSV - available for any integration, and any node in a workflow. Reach out if you’d like to try it.

Subscriptions (in beta)

We are currently testing our subscription system and will soon be able to onboard people from our waiting list.

Time series charts

Time series charts have special features for working with datasets where your dimension is a date or time, including a time navigator, date range selectors, and tooltips with crosslines.

White-labeling

It’s now possible to build a dashboard and provide a completely white-labelled experience for your clients.

If you upload your team icon in the team settings, it will automatically appear within your shared dashboards as a logo and favicon.

After that, head over to the team settings again to add a custom domain (CNAMEs). We provide a step-by-step guide to setup your DNS provider to point a subdomain (e.g. analytics.acme.com) to your Gyana dashboard.

New tutorials

We’ve built a brand new experience for learning about Gyana, with a clear set of steps and video tutorials along the way. It’s automatically enabled for new users, and existing users can experience it by creating a new project - or view our video tutorials here.

Project permissions

You can now use the invite only access option in projects to restrict membership. This is available for new and existing projects - see the project settings page.

Use this to work on sensitive internal projects, or keep individual client work safely isolated.

Dashboard improvements

We’ve released password-protected dashboards to restrict your public dashboards to people with the password.

Passwords are remembered in the current browser, but you have the option to forget this browser if you like.

To enable this option, head over to the sharing dropdown in your dashboard.

We’ve also added a special settings page, to make it easier to manage the dashboard. We’re going to focus a lot more work into improve the dashboard experience over the next month - watch this space.

Sentiment node

The sentiment node is a new workflow step to calculate the sentiment score of a text column (think Shopify reviews or Intercom conversations), from -1 (negative) to +1 (positive). Under the hood, it leverages the Google NLP API.

This is our first feature powered by credits - every row you calculate uses 1 credit, and you can view your current usage in your team settings. You’ll get a confirmation before you spend, don’t worry!

We’re excited to see what you do with this!

New connectors

We’ve launched 50 new integrations, using our partnership with Fivetran. We’ve included popular requests like Outbrain, MongoDB, Instagram Business, Quickbooks and Search Console.

You can now view our full list of integrations on our website as well.

Webhooks

As part of our new connectors launch, we’ve added webhooks - you can now post any custom data source into Gyana using an API.

Improvements & fixes

• You can now directly paste a Google Sheets link into a project, and we’ll open a new Sheet page

• Email templates are more consistent and easier to read - no more scary long URLs

• We’ve re-enabled team deletion, with a backup retention policy in case something goes wrong

• In the teams pages, we’ve moved the team switcher into a separate left sidebar (like Slack, for example), and moved our tabs into sidebar items

• You can now filter connectors by category and search for them

• We’ve added this changelog into the app, to help keep you up to date with our weekly changes :)

If you want to check the password you are typing in, we’ve added a helpful toggle visibility button. You’ll find it on login and our password-protected dashboards.

Forget browser for protected dashboard

Using a password-protected dashboard from an unsafe computer? You can now scroll to the bottom and click forget me on this browser to re-enable the password protection.

Sentiment node in preview

Our sentiment node for workflows is now in preview. You can use it to calculate the sentiment score of a text column (think Shopify reviews or Intercom conversations), from -1 (negative) to +1 (positive). This is now in early access and will be live in the coming weeks. We’re excited to see what you do with it!

We’ll now ask you to choose a plan when you create a new team - currently only free, but with paid plans going live in November.

As with tools like Notion, Pitch and Figma, teams enable you to work with multiple different organisations who use separate billing accounts - e.g. your company, a client, a personal project and a non-profit.

Templates are gone … for now

We launched our templates feature as part of Gyana 2.0, designed to jumpstart your analysis for common connectors like Google Analytics.

Over the last month, we’ve listened to all your feedback and realised they aren’t doing their job - at least not now. Because these connectors often take up to an hour to sync, it’s actually faster and easier to create a project if you want to get started with Gyana. As of today, templates will be hidden for new users, which should remove one more decision point.

This isn’t the end for templates - we’re going to keep iterating on this internally, until we have something that takes literally a few minutes to setup and delivers loads of value. Keep an eye out for that!

Formula improvements

• You can directly subtract datetime, date and time columns, like end_date - start_date

  • For date columns, the difference is number of days

  • For time and datetime columns, the difference is number of seconds

• Use the datetime_diff function to choose the exact difference (e.g. number of months or minutes)

• Use the datetime_seconds to get a datetime from the seconds from midnight 1st Jan 1970 (aka unix time, popular in databases)

• Added a COUNT DISTINCT aggregation (e.g. get the unique users per day)

We’ve added 7 new widgets to our dashboards - stacked line, scatter, funnel, pyramid, radar, bubble and heatmap. Take a look at our widget reference for help in choosing and inspiration on how to use them. We’re excited to see what you come up with!

Unbranded dashboards

Shared dashboards will not show any branding - by default, we’ve removed the “powered by Gyana” and the favicon is blank. (For the next step, we’ll be adding a white-labelling option.)

Improvements & fixes

• We’ve made it easier to select the columns in your window node

• We’ve removed the option to group by a non-whole number (float) in a window node due to limitations in our platform

• We resolved an issue where schema selection failed for certain connectors (e.g. Intercom, Stripe, Amplitude)

• Public dashboards now display the team and title automatically

• Your plan information is now displayed on the billing page

• Widgets aggregate by count automatically if no metrics are selected

• Fixed an issue where the overview page would incorrectly show all integrations succeeding, when there were no integrations

• Everything is now ordered by last edited by default

• Fixed an issue where formulas would not save in certain circumstances

• Fixed an issue where the dashboard preview in templates could not be scrolled left

• Fixed a bug with the autocomplete in the in/not in filters

Your Gyana account is now separated into teams and projects. The highlights include our first-party Google Sheets integration, a better connector setup flow, a visual editor for workflows and interactive dashboards.
